Forensics vs. Apologetics
I’m often asked what the difference is between forensics and apologetics. The answer is probably more about focus than substance. At the risk of over-simplification, Apologetics would be the act or discipline of proving, rebuking, correcting and arguing theology from an inerrant Biblical position. This would be similar to a good attorney preparing and arguing his case in court to show that his view of the case or evidence was in fact the correct one. Forensics, while holding to the same tenants, uses extemporaneous evidence, such as an event or object, to show how something might be true. For example we would not only argue that the preterist’s (a belief that prophecy was fulfilled in AD 70) view of history is in error using the text, syntax and context but we would submit the physical evidences as well i.e., Israel coming back to life in 1948 which would give support to the idea that God is not finished with Israel yet.
This is why the Forensic Bible Institute is primarily a prophecy based current events ministry. We believe that we have a Biblical mandate to know the times. We are told that when we see or experience “these things” (Luke 21:28) we should be looking up expecting the return of the Lord. Hebrews tells us that we will “see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25) while 1 Thessalonians admonishes us (Christians) not to be like those in the dark (unsaved) but that we should be awake and alert and not be surprised (1 Thess. 5:4-6). Finally, Jesus tells us “Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door” (Matt. 24:33). God always warns his people before he acts. It is his nature to patiently inform and warn those he loves. As you read the accounts of God’s judgments from the flood to the destruction of the second temple you will see that he warns and warns before he acts. It is no different today. In this time just prior to the greatest judgment God has ever wrought on the earth, He is warning. This trouble or tribulation will be so great that nothing like it has ever been seen before and will never be seen again (Matt. 24:21). God is giving us His warning in the very fulfillment of the prophecies that are thousands of years old. Are you awake? Are you watching? We are!
